Casino Royale – As I have said before, I will not spoil a movie that is currently in the theaters, so if you are looking for the inside scoop, you’ve come to the wrong place. However, I will tell you that this movie is great! If you have any reservations against the movie due to Daniel Craig playing James Bond, you better lose them. Plant a tree. Save the world?
November 25, 2006Last month, Nobel laureate and environmentalist Wangari Maathai called for a global initiative to plant one billion trees to help fight off global warming and climate changes. Ms. Maathai, the first female African to win the Nobel Peace Prize, says “Anyone can dig a hole; anyone can put a tree in that hole and water it. Change in format
November 23, 2006I have temporarily changed the presentation of the website due to a coding issue. For some reason, a have random posts that “disappear” from the main page upon refreshing. Sometimes all five posts will display, other times one or more will not. Once I get this figured out, I’ll switch it back. Maritime: SS Green Island
November 22, 2006Back in the 1990’s, I sailed aboard the SS Green Island. The Green Island was a LASH (Lighter Aboard SHip) class vessel chartered by the Waterman Steamship Corporation. For those not familiar with a LASH, it is basically a large, hallow vessel which carries floating barges which are loaded and off-loaded by a rolling crane (or Lighter) along the deck. Some variants of the LASH also carry standard shipping containers behind the forward house. The image below is a good representation of what the Green Island configuration looks like.
